Brantford Galaxy jumped to second position in the CSL standings with a 5-2 defeat of league-leading York Region Shooters, Milltown FC squeaked past Brampton Lions 1-0 and North York Astros came up with two second half goals to tie Toronto Croatia 2-2, all Sunday action in the CSL.

The attacking strength of several Brantford players from Europe became more apparent in the first half of the game against York Region Shooters played at Lions Park in Brantford Sunday night. It was Ranko Golijanin who opened the scoring for the home side when he beat Shooters’ goalkeeper Camilo Benzi at 11 minutes, midfielder Drazen Jukovic made it 2-0 six minutes later, forward Miodrag Andvelkovic increased the lead to 3-0 at 36 minutes and almost on half-time Drazen Govic made it 4-0.

York Region Shooters came back with a goal at  63 minutes when Jason De Thomasis found the net past the Galaxy ‘ keeper Ante Domjanovic for a 4-1 score, Brantford forward Marsalis Beckford made it 5-1 at 64 minutes and Desmond Humphrey reduced the lead to 5-2 with a goal at 90 minutes for York Region Shooters.

 

York Region Shooters remain on top of the standings with a 4-2-1 WLT record for 13 points, while Brantford Galaxy vault up to second position with a 3-0-2 still unbeaten record following the win Sunday night and a 2-2 tie on Friday.

A penalty kick miss by when Judah Hernandez who struck the crossbar early in the second half  proved costly for Brampton Lions when they eventually conceded a goal by Milltown’s Agustin De Medina 20 minutes later. The 1-0 score remained to the final whistle to give the Milton community team its second victory and a 2-2-2 record for 8 points.

Brampton Lions appeared to have an edge in the play in the game on their home ground at Victoria Park, but the Lions are still winless with an 0-4-1 record for one point.

North York Astros fought back after being down 2-0 early in the second half to tie Toronto Croatia 2-2 at Esther Shiner Stadium.

Hugo Herrera opened the scoring at the 7th minute mark for Croatia, a 1-0 lead at half time and Braeden Krampert increased the lead to 2-0 two minutes into the second half.

The Astros fought back and were rewarded with a spectacular goal by Victor Gallo at the 75th minute mark. He volleyed the ball from 40 yards to catch the top right corner and Mayhar Kohbad  tied the game 2-2 at 87 minutes.

The Astros missed a penalty just before scoring the two goals and lost goalscorer Kohbad after the goals were scored – he was show a second yellow at 93 minutes, to be ejected just before the final whistle.

Astros have a 2-1-2 record for 8 points, while Toronto Croatia are at 1-2-2 for five points.

The CSL resumes with three games on Friday, June 18.
